Friendly service and great location if you're going to a show at Chaifetz Arena, the Fox, the Symphony, etc. The calamari was good and came with a cream sauce and a marinara. The Italian bellini cocktail was light and refreshing - not a frozen version. Spaghetti and meatballs were tasty with huge meatballs. Lasagna was quite cheesy and tasted good as well. The beef tortellini was also good. The app, 1 entree, and 1 cocktail ran about $34 after tax and tip.

Spent the weekend at Holiday Inn at I80/I90 and ordered pizza at 8:06 pm, was told 20 minutes til delivered, called again at 9:10 pm was told be there in 10 minutes. Called again at 9:58 pm, manager stated never received the order, would be an hour before we would receive our order. Manager stated he just came on duty. Sorry but you close at midnight, why would just be coming on duty for 2 hours? Poor service, will never order or visit a Vito's. Should not have to give a star rating because they do not deserve even 1 star!

The food here is bland in flavor. And that's putting it in the best light I can come up with. Also, the pizza wasn't cooked right (partially burnt). I would have complained but when I looked at another table it looked like their pizza was burnt too, so I thought maybe that was just part of their cooking style. The food isn't terrible, it's just unpleasant. If it was more reasonably priced I might even consider eating here again (if my friends insisted for some reason). Other observations: The tables are too close together. Wait staff is friendly but not terribly attentive. The menu descriptions do not consistently match what shows up on the plate.

Great food and got a great deal. The waitress (not sure of her name) was not super polite, didn't say much, and kinda had an attitude. But I liked the food so I would go back!

First time guests on Friday evening. It was our daughters suggestion. We were seated quick & easily. It is a really nice inside & a wonderful patio setting. Our server was great. He did stand over us but was there when we needed something. The food it was delicious! We had rosotto balls & toasted ravs to start followed by salad and pizza. The crust was just right, not to thick and not too thin. The cheese and spices really sent it over the top. Definitely on our repeat list. Great choice!

Great lunch today here! I had the the Chicken Parmigiana Panini with a house salad. It was a good size portion and it was fairly priced.

I'm giving 3 stars only because I had their lunch buffet which was nothing special - pizzas, salads, and a pasta dish for $8.50. There patio was spacious and clean. The interior was nice and kept. Typical Italian ambience. Service was slow. We were told to sit anywhere and 10 minutes passed before a server came. When she did come, no menus were given and she assumed we were having the buffet. Not much to review at this time. Will have food from their menu next time for a more in-depth review.

I have been to Vito's twice before-once on a Sunday after a performance the Fox Theater-and once for lunch. I really never want to base an opinion on one visit. My visit last night was marginal at best. The server was nice-albeit-rather ambivalent. We sat on the patio. It was a beautiful evening. There were two servers. Including us, there were three tables with customers on the patio and one table inside. There were a few customers at the bar. The server brought us water. When I asked for wine, she didn't offer a wine list-she just gave me two options. The standard sized wine glass was not half filled. We had to ask for bread service. The salads came-I asked for pepper. The server brought a salt and pepper shaker. She never asked if we wanted ground pepper. My thoughts were that they didn't offer fresh ground pepper until I noticed the other server carry a pepper mill to another table. The seafood ravioli was so-so. A very small portion for $17.00. I have bought much better seafood pasta at Costco. I asked for dessert. Again, never offered a dessert menu. She gave me some options. I ordered the "in house made Italian wedding cake." Again, a very small portion-that looked like it may have been the last piece. As far as it being made in house-all I can say-when I got my check-the dessert was itemized as "Hank's Cheesecake." I won't be going back anytime soon.

Dinner early Saturday evening. Not too crowded so parking was no issue. Restaurant was clean, service friendly. They have outdoor seating for those that enjoy eating outside. Got the Caesar salad. It was unremarkable. The croutons seemed extra hard so I didn't even eat them. He lettuce was average. Not old but not overly fresh as evidenced by some brown spots. Thought about the arcini balls but opted to try to go healthier. Next time it will be the arcini. Pizza was really good. Tried a slice of the Il Vacaro with Italian sausage, spinach, and ricotta. Definitely recommend going with the Sicilian version. Extremely flavorful. Crispy crust yet flaky and flavorful with the seasonings. Also got the original wheat crust with Italian sausage and mushrooms. It was tasty. Well cooked. It wasn't as flavorful as the Sicilian version but still a solid pizza choice. The pizza is definitely worth a try here. Had a groupon so they wouldn't allow the yelp coupon also. Totally understand but bummer since others seemed to use both.

Adequate lunch buffet if you're in a rush but I didn't find anything special. On a par with Pizza Hut. If you're looking for a quiet place or patio dining this fit that bill. To be fair, the food is probably better when ordered off the menu.

Great place to eat. I had never been there really convenient. The staff was great I had a person in a wheelchair and it really made great accommodations for us. And that was on the fly so thank you very much. Now to the food and Carbonero it was excellent nice bacon flavor. Not so heavy because the spaghetti was just great. The person had a pizza meatball pizza very good he said nice beer selection he said as well. Next time I'm in St. Louis I will be back. Once again thank you for being so accommodating on short notice.

We did not have a good experience at this place. The food was not delicious and the service was terrible. We were the only table there; you would think we wouldn't have to ask for anything...wrong. The staff seemed more interested in the Hockey game. Sadly the food didn't make up for the lackluster service. We ordered a sausage, pepperoni & bacon pizza, the Pappy's pizza and the seafood risotto. They forgot the sausage on the first pizza, the Pappy's pizza was dry & overcooked and the Risotto was the worst I ever had in my life. It's was mushy and overcooked, bland, and hardly had any seafood in it...really...two tiny scallops, maybe three shrimp, and I can count the pieces of clams on one hand. $17 for mush. Very dissatisfied and we won't return.

I was hoping to be able to add an extra star to my Vito's review this time, but that isn't the case. It's holding its own at 3 stars. I once again had a Groupon/Living Social deal, so that put me someplace happy expense-wise. Vito's is about what you'd expect for a restaurant in the theatre/SLU area. It seems the place is busiest nights when there's anything happening in the area. The food falls someplace between okay and good. It's the same story with the ambiance, volume levels, drinks, prices, and service. The last time I tried to eat at Vito's before an event, there was a long wait, so I made a reservation before seeing Jersey Boys a week ago Friday. My friend and I were seated at a teeny tiny table between a wall and a narrow walkway. Being of Italian descent and talking with my hands, I twice hit people walking by. Our server was nice enough, but she was breathless and tended to disappear if either of us showed even the slightest hesitation in ordering. We both ordered the Italian lemonade, which only most disappointingly only slightly lemony. We both regretted not ordering the sangria for $1 more. My friend, who had never been to Vito's, had fetticcini alfredo, which is her go-to dish. She liked it, but there wasn't enough of it on her plate to love. I ordered my own go-to meal, a cheese pizza. Specifically, it was the Sicilian-style Quattro Formaggi, $10. Tasty enough, it's nothing I've thought about since finishing the half of it I took home. I probably wouldn't assume I will return to Vito's... except for its location, location, location. When the weather is nicer, maybe I'll go I can sit outside and perhaps get a better drink recommendation.

Came here for dinner with a few other friends and we weren't disappointed at all! First of all, Trish our waitress was so accommodating, fast and sweet, I hope that she is our waitress every time I go! Second, the food was delicious. Portions were split for sharers, the pizza was very good. I had the Super Vito's, and ate almost all of it. Yes I am a pig. I love food what can I say! This restaurant is in a great location, prices were very reasonable for wine and food, and they are walking distance to the Fabulous Fox theatre, so park and enjoy a meal here before going to see a show. You won't be disappointed.

Went to hear Dave Black & Joe Mancuso tonight. Clearly others had done the same because they are wonderful. Met at the door by a very nice young woman. When I ask about the music a Lady who identified herself as the owner said they are on the patio, Seriously it's over 100 degrees outside. I ask why the music was not in the bar area and she said " we have a party" They are only 2 guys and there was clearly enough room in the bar for them. We ordered a drink ($9.00 each, this is a college bar) way over prices. Took our drinks outside to listen to the wonderful music. Stayed for one set & left to eat else where. Live music inside would have been an much better alternative for the dinners then the awful canned music they were playing. They are missing a great opportunity, having live music for dinners inside would be a PLUS. The others we sat with felt the same and after listening to great music left to eat some where with air conditioning & live music. They are missing the point. Likely won't return & will pass on the word to other s who enjoy live entertainment with dinner. From the reviews I have read, they miss the point on food as well.

I think this is hands-down the best pizza in St. Louis (Sicilian style for the win!). My husband and I went to Vito's last night. We arrived early to enjoy their awesome happy hour specials and had a reservation for later on. Our arancini balls were muy delicioso! And, $3 local drafts (and non-local, too) from 4-6? Okay! Love that they have Urban Chestnut on tap. Half price apps and other drink specials, too. I definitely want to hit this place up for happy hour again. We ordered two different types of salad with our pizza. The caprese salad was impressive and was surely made with a heirloom tomato. The other salad was very delicious with fresh mozzarella balls/giant olives. But, the Sicilian pizza is where it's at! We ordered one with eggplant and kalamata olives. The crust is unlike any other pizza crust I've had. Flaky, yet thick. It's sooo good. Our server was also delightful. Oh, and we ordered the Italian margarita, too! It never occurred to me to put DisAronno in a margarita! Genius!

Happened to eat here before a show at The Fox. Warm, inviting atmosphere, good service and great pizza. We let our waitress know we were kind of in a hurry to get to the show, and they were very fast with everything. Side note: it was Winter, but it looked like they had a great outdoor patio. Looking forward to checking it out in the Summer!

This visit I had pizza. Very good pizza! The crust is outstanding, it is the same as the bread served with dinner. I have had other dishes there also, no complaints. Very good. Reservations are a huge plus. We go to the Maryville Speaker series at Powell. We know are reservations are honored, no delay. And your preference/request for bar, dinning room or outside is accepted. We are able to enjoy a nice dinner and arrive on time at Powell. Also, TVs in bar are a plus, and there are NO TVs in the dinning area.

Back in my SLU college days, I remember when Vito's was a little dive we used to order pizza from. These days, Vito's has shed its flannel and ripped jeans for a starched oxford and khakis. Vito's is all grown up, and I loved the grown-up Vito's a few years ago, but a recent visit with a Living Social coupon brought me back to find out I don't really love Vito's anymore. Here's why: The food is overpriced and mediocre (except the Arancini - those are fantastic). I got the Chicken Pesto Pizza that I've always loved - pesto as the sauce, topped with tomatoes, grilled chicken and lots of cheese. It was very disappointing because there was barely any pesto to taste. In fact, without the tomatoes, it wouldn't have tasted like anything. Major fail for a $14 pizza. My dining companion got the $18 Chicken Florentine. I had a bite and it was overcooked and rubbery. I didn't ask for a second bite. Service was mechanical at best. No one seemed to like their jobs here. Also, if you're going to seat people next to the service area, it's a good idea for the servers not to hang out back there and yuck it up for your customers to hear throughout their overpriced, mediocre dinner. Finally, I get that Vito's is small and they are trying to fit as many people as possible...but the seating is entirely too cramped. I watched several people undertake the major ordeal of trying to shimmy into their seat. I felt most sorry for the poor people at the 2-top booths that are so small that their legs were hanging off the side of the seat. Image this with people flinging around heavy winter coats and to-go boxes around tables set with glassware. "Bulls in china shops" comes to mind. So, after over a decade-long liking for Vito's, this trip opened my eyes to the fact that there are too many great alternatives to Vito's for me to make a return visit.

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now and a Groupon finally convinced me. Thank goodness that I used a Groupon as the food was just ok and nothing to write home about. Go to The Hill for really excellent Italian.

I have been here a few times for lunch during the week since it is close to my office and a few of my coworkers are fans of their lunch buffet. For $10 (including tax and tip) it is a pretty great deal! They offer 3 to 4 different types of pizza, a full salad bar, 1 kind of pasta, and 2 kinds of soup at the lunch buffet. The pizza is pretty good, not the best I have ever had but definitely not the worst. It's better if you catch a pie fresh from the oven, otherwise the slices can be a little lukewarm from sitting under a heating lamp. As for the salad bar there is lettuce and about 20 different toppings to choose from. Also everything seems pretty fresh so I am fan of it. I have only tried the pasta once, but it was pretty damn tasty...it was penne noodles with a tomato meat sauce. The sauce was a tad creamy, which bumped it a notch above your normal sauce for me. I have only tried their chicken noodle soup and it was pretty standard. Someone else I was with got a cream of mushroom soup that looked fairly watery, so the soups seem to be hit or miss. Another great thing about Vito's is that they are part of Saint Louis Originals. If you have a card be sure to get your points while eating here. Once you spend $150 at the participating restaurants you get $10 to spend at any of them...not a bad deal!

Overall a decent place for pizza and italian food. We came here as a large group of 20+ after a show at the Fox theater. Aside from the fact that they forgot about our reservation they were able to seat us and serve us in a timely fashion. We did arrive around 4pm for dinner. I ordered their calamari and mussels for an appetizer and the Il Vacaro deep dish for dinner. The calamari was a served in a decent size portion with a good crisp to the calamari. That went very quick. The mussels were placed in an excellent sauce with plenty of garlic and tomatoes. It definitely made you want to dip your bread into it to soak up the juice. The mussels on this occasion were slightly over cooked and that was my only criticism of this dish. The Il Vacaro was a 12 in deep dish pizza that definitely big enough for 2. It had great flavor and thick gooey cheese. The sausage had a slight spiciness to it that I enjoyed. The crust was crispy just the way I like it. Of course I couldn't finish it and it lasted maybe 2 more meals! Overall a good restaurant but not sure if I would drive downtown just for the restaurant. They do have a very nice patio that looks very inviting. Definitely a place I'll check out again when I'm in midtown for a show or a Billikens game!

December 15, 2013 Great atmosphere! Handsome servers. Very warm experience. The night we were here was a snowy, cold evening. The place was packed as we came here before our concert at Powell Hall. We had a reservation which was ready for us when we arrived. Very upbeat staff. This place was hitting on all cylinders. A modest but certainly adequate wine by the glass selection that had the juice priced fairly. Our group of 2 couples ordered 4 different items and we were very, very satisfied. The bread, oh my, the bread! I ordered something hardly anyone orders at an Italian restaurant; spaghetti and meatballs. It-was-great! When we left, I told my date, "we're coming back."

Many people seem to adore Vito's but after ordering a few times, I am still not a fan. I've ordered 2 times over the phone and was looking off of a menu I found online for them. Apparently, they either changed their menu or there is another Vito's in St. Louis. The worker on the other end got pretty frustrated with me but it was probably my fault so I understood. I ended up ordering 2 pizzas-pepperoni and cheese - and waited for the delivery. Delivery showed up over an hour later. The next time I called, I ordered the same thing-cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza. The man on the other end was not the friendliest and it took over an hour for delivery again. The pizza was not bad but not great. For the price, I was expecting something above average. I'm giving 2 stars because pizza is pizza.

Had one of the best experiences ever! Atmosphere-5. Food-5. Price-4 (bit pricey but worth it.) Service-5. Partner is a vegetarian and somewhat picky. He loved everything he ate. I ordered a pizza and salad and it was very satisfying. Highly recommend this place!

Vito's is right next to a university campus, so I can only imagine what Friday and Saturday nights are like! They have a good selection of pizza and pasta and an extensive variety of brewskies! The sourdough bread appetizers were good with the oil and vinegar to dip them in. The house salad was okay too! They have several sizes of pizza and even a buffet that you can enjoy. I opted for the pizza and salad special. The 9" pizza was large and I couldn't eat it all. Plenty of toppings and sauce. Maybe a bit too much cheese though. I really liked the thin crust! It was thin, but not a cracker crust and had a slight puffiness to it. Next time I will go all out for the Sicilian crust! I was too full for dessert, but I did notice that they had gelato!

As a SLU alum, I love Vito's pizza and have fond memories of their fresh, well seasoned pizzas. We ordered the Vito's deluxe w/o olives. I guess I forgot how expensive their pizzas are, but this was a good pizza, better than average. The caponata was sweet and balanced with the vinegar. The taste was like a sweet and complex tomato sauce, and you couldn't taste the olives (for better or worse) - I loved it. We also enjoyed the sausage that came with the caponata. It was a great complement to the sauce - hot, fresh, not too salty.

Great place for dinner when heading to the Fox. The restaurant has no children's menu, but the staff was more than happy to split orders for the children. We will be back the next time we are heading to the Fox or Powell.

Psst, come here and I'll tell you a secret. No, come closer I've got to whisper it or everyone will know. Some of the best Italian in Saint Louis is not on The Hill, it can be found on Lindell near SLU. I will be honest, I may have not ever discovered Vito's if it were not for my Chicago Yelp friend, Lupe D.. She had Living Social Coupon she was not going to be able to use and shared it with me. Wow, it goes to show Yelp friendships can extend beyond your hometown. We begun our Vito's experience with Calamari Fritti and it was a great way to start. The pieces were huge and covered in enough breading to get a crispy texture. They were served with a side of freshly made marinara sauce, but I enjoyed mine with a fresh squeezed lemon. Next was Crispy Caesar Salad and fresh hot baked bread. The bread was so warm when served to our table, that the butter melted easily. Making it a perfect complement to our salads. Vito's uses only the hearts of romaine for their Caesar Salad and combined it with Crunchy Croutons and Shaved Parmigiano Cheese. My tummy was content at this point, but we still had more to come. Our entrees were Parpadelle Bolognese and Linguine Con Vongole, both were superior to fare I have had recently on "The Hill". The Parpadelle had a rich Marinara sauce combined with ground beef and peas. They then topped it with fresh shaved Parmigiano. My Linguine Con Vongale was absolutely perfect. I was amazed at the large number of littleneck clams that they tossed in white wine, olive oil, fresh garlic, lemon and parsley. Both servings were large enough for two to share after having a salad. Our server was friendly and attentive to all the tables around us. Taking note of the other food being served around us, we know that we will be back for more great food at Vito's.

This place just won "Best Thick Crust" in the RFT for their Sicilian pizza. Eh, it's ok. If you're looking for something equal to what you'd find in NYC, you'll be disappointed. But St. Louis is kind of a black hole for deep dish pizza. Louie's and Black Thorn are both better.

Standard American/Italian. We were staying at the Hotel Ignacio, so it was convenient. Lots of people going to shows in the theatre district and busy at 7 but cleared out quickly. Huge patio was nice but the weather wasn't good for us. Great eggplant appetizer. Good service. Very well attended bathrooms. Nice job.

I occasionally get Vito's for take away when I'm looking for some good Italian. They do a great job with their to-go orders and always have everything packed up nice and neat. I usually stick with the spaghetti and meatballs or lasagna, both of which are consistently good. Spaghetti and meatballs isn't something I'd normally order from an Italian restaurant, but Vito's version is always so good! They also throw in a container of fresh baked rolls with my order which is a nice bonus. The pizza here isn't my favorite, but overall I still enjoy this place. I'd say that Vito's falls somewhere between 3 and 4 stars.

Visiting Vito's was a splurge for us before heading over to the Symphony. Armed with a gift card, we knew we had some room to play and explore with our order. Otherwise, budget-wise, we would have stuck with pizza. (My husband has had their pizza in the past and likes it, but this was my first visit.) We both ordered drinks. The Peach Bellini is good! Calamari for an appetizer. I don't like calamari due to the texture, but this batch smelled so good that I tried one. The flavor was excellent. I had the seafood ravioli as my entree, and he had the special, which was swordfish. Both were excellent. Fair warning: the one thing that was disappointing to us that we didn't know until after the fact: the servings were very small for the price ($14 for the ravioli, which had about 6 pieces and $22 for the special which was also small). The server asked which side salad we would like, causing me to think it was part of the meal. However, we learned otherwise when we got the bill. (The panzanella salad IS really good, but I don't think I would have added another $5 to my bill in order to have it.) Tiramisu for dessert. Yummy! So...live and learn. We now know that the entrees include nothing except a bread basket on the table, and we won't make that mistake again. The quality, again, was excellent, and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. We did make reservations, which I think is probably smart for a Saturday night.

Vito's is my go to lunch spot when I want something quick, cheap, and close to work. The buffet for lunch is just perfect. I can eat as much pizza, salad, soup, and pasta that I want without feeling guilty. My friends and I usually arrive right around noon and each time we have gone we are able to be seated right away! Once we arrived at our table we give our order to the server for drinks (I usually get water) and then we get to hit the line for the buffet. The one thing I will say about the buffet line is that it can be a little cramped if there are too many people in line. The set up is a bit weird, but whatever, that can be overlooked. I usually fill my plate with salad first and maybe get a bowl of soup. Round 2 typically consists of veggie and cheese pizza! Most times I can only eat 2 slices, but they are good size and very delicious. I really like their pizza and should think to order from them more often, but to me, this is a place I go for lunch. Once finished eating we go to the front of the restaurant to pay our bill and then we can leave. Here's a tip: if you check in on Yelp you may even be lucky enough to get a free scoop of Gelato! Do it.

There are 2 things that make me love my new discovery, Vito's. 1) They deliver almost their entire menu to my new home in the Central West End. For years I've been in search of that smart business owner who realizes that if Chinese and pizza places can hit a home run by offering delivery, they can too. Sadly, only a handful of places that offer sandwiches have joined the delivery club. If you are craving pasta or an entree and want it to come to you, you are pretty much out of luck. Vito's, however, sees the value in selling food to people like me who won't take up table space or make any dishes dirty. My phone call inquiring about delivery was welcomed and there was a driver outside my door faster than Domino's guarantee. 2) Their pizza is wonderful! First, I'm not picky about pizza. I like Imo's and Racanelli's. I live Pizza Hut personal pan pizzas and fancy pizzas from The Good Pie. All of that said, I'm still struggling to find a pizza I can call my favorite since Il Vicino shut down. I'm not ready to call Vito's my favorite pizza in town, but it did bump Racnelli's and Talayna's off the top spots for a New York/hand tossed crust. I ordered a sausage and portobello mushroom pizza....and it was absolutely wonderful. The sausage is exactly the way I like it and the mushrooms are sautéed in something wonderful before being put on the pizza to bake. The pizza is covered in a thick coating of cheese and sprinkled with seasonings that you can see on top of the cheese. Light on the sauce and crust that bubbles up at the edges. All I can say is YUM! I can't wait to try some different combinations. And they get bonus points because they were willing to make me a version of cheese garlic bread using their bruschetta bread. I ended up changing my mind and ordered a Caesar salad instead, but anyplace that will make you something not on the menu to keep you happy wins major points in my book.

Since my first review, I've been back to Vito's a lot. I was really into this place after I first tried it, but I think I was a bit overzealous. Vito's still has a couple things going for it: the patio, toasted ravioli, and proximity to the theaters. I still think this is one of the better patios in St. Louis. However, two separate Saturday nights I've went up there specifically to sit outside only to be told the patio is closed for a private party. Lame. The food is OK, but really not that great. Their toasted ravioli is really good, though. I was there this weekend and got the lasagna and it came out room temperature. The top layer of cheese had already started to congeal. I also feel like the dining room is always slightly dirty. On the plus side, Vito's does have a very pre-theater vibe to it with the red booths, dim lighting, and close-together seating. So maybe go before a show or if you can snag a table when the patio is actually open. Otherwise, you might want to skip it.

The lady and I tried out Vito's around 11:30 on a Friday afternoon. A few minutes after we arrived, we were greeted and brought to a little booth and told we could help ourselves to the buffet. We weren't planning on eating the buffet (and we saw no indication on their website that they offered one), so we asked for lunch menus. Apparently this was a mortal sin because the level of service dropped drastically for us. Upon receiving the menus, it took 20 more minutes to get our orders taken. 40 minutes after that, we finally received our food. Also, from the moment we received our water, it took 45 minutes to acknowledge that we needed a refill, even though I saw surrounding groups of tables were promptly being served (of course they were eating from the buffet, unlike us evil customers). Also, just getting our bill and to-go boxes was an extreme hassle, and we ended up spending an hour and 45 minutes total in the restaurant for lunch. Ignoring the horrible service and concentrating on the pizza, I can say that it was rather good. The lady had their original crust with spinach, bacon, red onion and goat cheese and really enjoyed it. I ordered their "Il Vacaro" Sicilian pizza which had Italian sausage, ricotta and sautéed spinach. I wasn't extremely crazy about it. I wish I would've gotten the original crust instead because the Sicilian style was too similar to the oily deep dish crust that Pizza Hut offers. The sauce on the Sicilian was obviously chunky, though I found bigger chunks of onions in it than tomatoes and didn't particularly care for that. The spinach and ricotta didn't taste all that great, but I must say that the sausage on there was unforgettably delicious (though there definitely wasn't enough of it) and saved the pizza greatly. Perhaps I should've ordered a better combination of toppings, but I expected a pre-made combination on their menu to be really good. Overall, though, it really wasn't terrible. TL;DR: If you want pizza, pass on the Sicilian style. This place can get really crowded, so plan accordingly. If you're coming when they have a lunch buffet, don't order off the lunch menu unless you enjoy lazy, snobby college girls snubbing you. I personally won't come back because the food wasn't nearly good enough to justify suffering through the crappy service.

We stopped in for a quick bite before the Moolah. Even though it was a Saturday, It wasn't too crowded. This didn't seem like an upscale Italian restaurant, even though the website might lead you to believe it was. The decor is in need of updating. Reminds me of somewhere a high school boyfriend would have taken me for a "fancy" date. Luckily, I didn't have to worry about food getting caught in my braces on this night! We had the eggplant parm appetizer, and it was ok. We also got the Wild mushroom pizza and added sausage. The crust was good, and the pizza had lots of yummy mushrooms! I also didn't notice any provel...so the pizza gets 4 stars! Our server was so nice, even when we said we were in a hurry. 5 stars for her....hmmm, maybe I should rethink my rating? Ok, I give it 3.75 stars! I noticed on the website that they have a nice sized patio, and I would be willing to try it again and sit outside. And I see they have lamb chops! Or maybe pasta and gelato?

My first experience at Vito's left me somewhat disappointed. Let me start with the Pro's first. 1. Very nice inside some others complained of the restraunt being too small this is not the case, plenty of room and a great bar. 2 the food!! was amazing I had the spaghetti and Meat balls and it was great!! May be the best meatball I have ever had!! 3..the letdown that may keep us from returning. The service, we first were greeted by a girl named Trisha. She did a great job of explaining the menu highlighting a few items and overall was happy. She then got our drinks and had to pass off. I believe she was just helping out. The next waitress I do not have her name because she never offered it or service for that matter. Was not friendly at all, it was obvious she did not want to be there which in turn made us not want to be there! She checked on us once and did not even thank us for coming in. I wish we could of kept Trisha that would of changed that rating to 5 stars!! As always service is everything!!

I'm trying to eat better -- but I often don't succeed -- so some of my reviews are going to cover more "diety" foods... including this one. I ordered the linguine tutto mare, which was one of the few entrees on the menu that wasn't covered in cheese or served in a meat sauce or cream sauce. It had sauteed shrimp, scallops, clams, and mussels with tomato, garlic, mushroom and parsley. I don't know why I expected otherwise, but the dish was really fishy. Even the bites that didn't contain pieces of shellfish were fishy. Too fishy. Gross fishy. It didn't help that the clams and mussels were still in their shells when served in the pasta, so it made it annoying to eat as well. My wife got a calzone, which she likened to something you would get at Papa John's. I took a bite (not too big of a bite, I was eating healthy that evening) and agreed. It really wasn't anything special. Also of note, the rolls were a bit burnt and the caesar salad my wife got had way too much dressing on it. So, nothing we ordered was really all that good, and neither of us would be too excited about coming back to Vito's.

We always get the Sicillian pizza with Basil, Italian sausage, onion, and roasted red peppers. It is amazing and we keep getting it. It's our combo we came up with. The lunch buffet special is good as well and is a real bang for your buck. They have gelatto as well ; ) I have had a crappy lunch server here once, he was real crappy, but otherwise i have had great great service.

My boyfriend and I tried this place for the first time on Valentine's Day weekend as a romantic dinner. Even though it was an extremely busy Saturday night at 8pm, the service was impeccable! The hostess seated us quickly. Our server was Sherri L. She was very attentive and friendly. She immediately brought our drinks and bread and took our order. The dining room is a bit snug, but we still felt we had our privacy tucked away in a two person booth. We each ordered a house salad and shared the lasagna and seafood ravioli. Delicious!!!!! We felt the prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion size. We had a coupon from Eat Local Deck for $10 off of $25, which is how we knew of the place. We were very impressed with Vito's and will definitely be back. I can't wait to try their lunch on the beautiful patio once the weather warms up! I should add that we have both been in the service industry in the past, so we are typically more critical, but sometimes more understanding, than your average customer. We really like to give credit when credit is deserved!

me and my husband went here a week ago bc I had a living social deal for it. Upon arrival there was what looked like a bartender(barback), chef, and one other person standing at the bar and not one time turned around to acknowledge that we were there and there were no signs to say "please wait to be seated or please seat yourself" so after a minute or so we decided to seat ourselves. There appeared to be 2 servers on staff this evening we came and we were greeted by the two of them after a few minutes of sitting. The waitress gave us about 10 minutes to look through the menu, we ordered. The food seemed to take a LONG time to get, along with the waitresses' attention for more to drink. However, I must say that the wait is TOTALLY worth it. The food is GREAT!!! we ordered the special pizza and some calamari. Overall, the service was definitely lacking. I was a server for 4 years and I could have ran that entire place by myself(there were 5 other tables there) and there were 2 of them so there is no excuse as to why our waitress came by to drop off our food and to pick up the plates and give us a check. I only buy these living social/groupon deals to try new places to see if I would go back. People can ruin an experience really quickly. I would go back here but I would make sure that I'm in no hurry to go anywhere else because you will def. be late to your plans.

Went here to utilize my Sauce Magazine Hot Sauce coupon and was very happy! The Antipasto was a good specimen, the house salad was quite tasty and the deep dish pizza was very yummy! Three meals worth...probably on account of the very substantial portions of salad and the yummy app....The leftover pizza made a great lunch the next day! Service was attentive and very unobtrusive...I will absolutely go back!

It's late. Its getting dark or is dark. You just saw a movie at the Moolah theater leather couches and nothing appealing is open. Maybe you were out dancing salsa at Dante's or saw a production at the Fox Theater. You want a place that has nice ambience, mellow lighting, good, filling food, and and shelter from the cold elements and rain outside, and won't lose an arm and leg paying for it. Where? Come to Vito's. I affectionately refer to this as "the Sicilian place" when discussing where to eat after a movie or event in the area. That's right... not Italian but Sicilian which Yelp doesn't recognize as a category. I don't always make it to ordering from main menu. The appetizers are large. My favorites are the Calamari and the giant rissotto balls. Usually, this becomes dinner for two. Before you get these, you are fed delicious bread roll slices in a basket alongside with dishes of olive oil to dip this in. I notice recently there is a gelato refrigerator there which looks out of place. Perhaps it would be good for dinner. Can't say, haven't tried it. Anyhow... I like this place. I think seating is tight when its crowded for groups but one-on-one its rarely a problem. People wonder what's a good place for a first date in St. Louis? I think Vito's is a good place to close out a date late night after an event.

Food was very good, staff was very helpful. We sat on the patio (right beside a major road though) and the staff went out of their way to constantly move umbrellas to make sure we had shade, without us having to ask. Prices are very reasonable.

My sister and I went to Vito's for dinner last night before watching a show at the Fox and had a good experience. We had made a reservation for 6 pm and after having a little trouble finding parking we walked in and were seated right away. Our server was friendly and very prompt in taking our orders however it seemed like he may have had too many tables since we was running around like mad. We split a Caprese salad to start. The tomatoes were very fresh and the mozzarella was creamy though I wish there was a little more of it. What really brought the whole salad together was a balsamic reduction that was just slightly sweet. We then split a Capricciosa pizza which was on a thin crust with prosciutto, basil, tomato, portobello sauce and mushrooms. The pizza was the perfect size for us to split and was pretty tasty. Throughout our drinks and dinner our server was very helpful and prompt. I'll be back here again for drinks and to try out another one of their pizzas.

Walked in at about 5:20, place was nearly empty. The hostess asked if we had reservations, which I thought was weird. Of course, within 30 minutes, the place was packed. Silly me. Anyway, started off with the arancini. Very good, though wouldn't mind if they bumped it up from three to four. Just doesn't seem like enough, even for two people. My wife had the beef tortellini (cream sauce with prosciutto and peas). This was pretty impressive - it could have been really heavy, but the cream sauce was light and compliments the other flavors. Nice chunks of prosciutto never hurt either. I had the Capricciosa pizza -- prosciutto, basil, tomato, portobello, sauce, mushroom, fresh mozzarella, olive oil. Great crust and plenty of toppings. And please note that Vito's is a Provel-free pizza! As the above-mentioned crowd came in, our service didn't suffer, which is always a good thing. We'll be back.

Terrible in every way. Service was lacking but the food was horrendous. Two appetizers, two salads, a pizza and the "clam" pasta all were equally offensive. The table cloth had large stains and crumbs all over it so I put napkins down under my plates. I left hungry and angry.

Awesome and huge servings. Adjacent to St. Louis University in the Grand Center neighborhood. I had the Sausage, Red Pepper and Onion Calzone, and it was totally awesome. The gelato was nothing to write home about, but it did hit the spot. Prices were quite reasonable, especially when considering the size of the portions. Just three blocks from the Fox Theater.

I had been hearing about how good Vito's pizza is for years. So with a clear mind and somewhat high expectations, my girlfriend and I decided to give it a try. And I found the hype was justified. The pizza was cooked to perfection and their service was exceptional. With the perfect ratio of cheese, sauce, and crust, Vito's hit a home-run! As a native of St. Louis with an overzealous appetite for pizza, I am on a quest to find the "Best Pizza in St. Louis." While I am a fairly tough critic when it comes to this delightful dish, I couldn't seem to find anything I would change about Vito's pies. Well, maybe the price. So far, I rate Vito's pizza the second best in the city - just behind Pizza-A-Go-Go. If you haven't had Pizza-A-Go-Go I suggest reading my review and giving it a taste. You will be more than satisfied. Still, you are here to read about Vito's so I'll try to stay on topic. If you want a review of other items on Vito's menu I suggest looking elsewhere. This review is strictly based on the quality of their pizza. But I will say the menu looked good and I plan to go back and order something else. My girlfriend and I each got a personal-pan pizza. Of course I went with the perennial pepperoni - my benchmark topping for all pizza places. While I rate Pizza-A-Go-Go as the "Best Pizza Place in St. Louis," I have to crown Vito's the "King of the Pepperoni." They were thinly sliced, perfectly sized, slightly spicy pepperonis. The mozzarella was fresh and the sauce was on-point. But keep in mind we only had the original-style ... no thick Sicilian-style for us. The original was hand-tossed and baked beautifully. I would recommend Vito's pizza to anyone. Though I am tempted to give it five stars, I will continue to hold that status for the "Best" pizza - at least for the time being. Find me for other reviews of pizza in St. Louis.

Across from SLU's campus, Vito's is always busy. The lunch buffet is very tempting but I highly recommend their tortellini. Lunch or dinner the cream sauce is heavenly. Make sure to leave room, it is too easy to fill up on the fresh warm bread or salad with their homemade dressing. The portions provide for some yummy leftovers. Vito's is closed on Sundays and generally the bar area is pretty busy at night, especially after a Cardinals game.

We're currently working with Gio at Vito's to cater a family party we're having. Gio has been incredibly helpful with deciding on a menu while staying within our budget. I was worried about this part of the party planning thinking it would be a hassel, but not at all! I'm so happy Vito's was referred to us and can't wait to taste the food! I'll update once the party is over!

I've only been there once but it was a very, very good night. My wife and I joined the pre-show crowd, we had reservations. We were warmly greeted by the Maitre d', were show to a window table, our water glasses were filled immediately. Our server presented the wine list and we opted for a Venetian Bianco. My wife had the seafood ravioli, I chose the special of the day, blackened swordfish on a bed of linguini and braised vegetables topped with a garlic aioli sauce. Although the staff was quite attentive but not oppressively so. The entrees arrived quickly and were fabulous. My swordfish was perfectly cooked and large. My wife immediately commented on her dish saying it was the best she had had in St. Louis. Cheesecake, Lemoncello. Nice. Having tried most of the other dining options near The Fox Vito's certainly stands out. I think it's a great place and will certainly return.

Had reservations tor dinner before the symphony on Feb 24th. It was my first time and I will go back to try other dishes. Chris the waiter was helpful with many suggestions and we were fortunate to take him up on the seafood ravioli. We then came back for cheesecake after the concert and we weren't disappointed on that choice as well.

So far, I've tried the Veal Milanese and the seafood ravioli. I still want to try the shrimp scampi which has jumbo shrimp the size of saucer plates. I wouldn't suggest the veal since it was a tough piece of meat, and it could probably be made at home in ten minutes. Good appetizers include the large fried shrimp and toasted ravioli. The pizza was good, each one could serve 1 hungry person or 2 people adequately, and it's good to take home. The dough was a bit undercooked. Guinness went well with the veal, and white wine went well with the seafood ravioli. For dessert, the tiramisu was spectacular. It's about the size of a small gift box.

vito's was packed on a frigid, icy wednesday night, so we had a good feeling about how things were gonna go down. vito's delivered in all aspects, though we wouldn't order the sicilian-style pie again. if you're doing deep dish in the city (or anywhere on the globe, for that matter), you have to go to pi. but vito's whole wheat crust was delicious, as was the portabella salad (sans meat). we will definitely be returning!

I'm not a big fan of pizza in general, but a job located close to Vito's brought me here often. This is some of my favorite pizza anywhere. And the buffet is a great offering. I especially like to give Vito's my business because the owner is so charitable to nonprofits in town. He helped me out big time with a Humane Society event and the staff we worked with could not have been nicer. The pizza went over great. Just wish we'd ordered more! Good pizza, good prices and an owner who believes in giving back to the community? They've earned my business for a long time to come.

I've been to this place many times when I'm near the SLU campus and this place is delicious! I can't help but overindulge on the bread/pizza dough with olive oil and balsamic! It's so delicious. I'm just a simple pepperoni pizza guy and the original is two meals for me! Thanks Vito's for being delicious!

Ok I know that this is a restaurant review but I haven't actually had their food yet. However, I went here for a happy hour and had drinks for a birthday before we went out to a club and let me tell you... Them there people KNOW how to pour a drink! When I say EVERYONE (designated driver excluded) I was with (men included) were drunk before we even got to our destination.

I came here with a boyfriend a while ago and the food was below subpar. My eggplant pasta was swimming in oil and was not the slightest bit flavorful (except the oil flavor). Also, I found a VEGETABLE STICKER in it. When brought to the waiter's attention, he was very apologetic and took it off the tab. He offered to take it back but I I've always been afraid of people spitting in my food. That's kind of an irrational fear though...kinda? So the service was good. But my then-boyfriend bought an expensive seafood pasta that he barely touched because it didn't taste good at all. I felt so bad because we usually didn't go out very often since we're students and buying that pasta was really considered splurging for him. Not to mention the bruscetta was literally bread with salsa on it. Not appetizing at all! My friends and I came a different time for their student deal and it was okay...but honestly it would be hard to mess up a simple marinara pasta. More recently (1.5 months ago), someone brought over a veggie Vito's pizza and the pizza is a LOT better than the pasta - so I would recommend, if you should ever go to Vito's, to get the pizza! It seems like it's what they're known for anyway. Anyway, to this day, I literally can't look at Vito's without thinking about that sticker I found in my already flavorless pasta. It makes me think that their kitchen isn't clean! I would give it one star but the extra star is for the good service. It's not their fault the food sucks!

This review is STRICTLY for delivery/customer service. We have given Vito's three chances, way more than they deserved, but you can know it wasn't a one time occurrence. Every time it takes AT LEAST 1.5hrs to get our food, after calling to make sure they remembered it (which, half the time they didn't) and our food arrives cold. One time it took them over 2 hours to deliver and they forgot my salad! If your company is going to SUCK at delivery, why even offer it? Don't give someone a 45 minute ETA when its really going to be 2 hours. Don't give me a stupid excuse like the driver didn't have my phone number, that is YOUR fault for not giving it to him because I provided it. Their delivery is so awful it makes me not want to go there even to sit-down and eat. /rant

Make sure you read between the lines! I've eaten here now on three occasions. The first one I couldn't be blamed, the second one was because I forgot to make a reservation before the Fox and the third was because in a moment of starvation I forgot about the first two. I am not sure why I never took the time to write a review. Recently though, I saw the owner respond to another review and it prompting me thinking. One is that I'm just absolutely shocked when an owner/manager starts a fight with someone on a public forum. In general I'm shocked that you have such little experience with an appropriate way to handle people and yet are in a field that requires that very thing 100% of the time. On top of that, these guys are just delusional! In a recent response to a guest, not a thing they posted is accurate. Their "survival" is merely a location - for which they should be applauded. If this food and service was anywhere else except where stoned college kids couldn't stumble across the street from church or unsuspecting victims going to the Fox or Grand Center who didn't know any better would end up there, it would have been gone years ago. On all three occasions the service has not only been below par, but to the stage of horrible. Having to request things or ask for help with things is common here. In a place where the food is often so mediocre, requesting something of staff is pretty often, so I'd hide to if I worked here. I have never been here once where I didn't have to get up a physically find someone and funny enough on the last occasion the guy I found was the manager at the bar who was drinking (as mentioned in another review). He ended up being the owner!! Holy bejesus, this place should be on Restaurant Nightmares so Gordon can tell the entire family they've lost their mind. Even with the Yelp deal of $10 for $20 or any other Groupon or sucker deal to get you into this Bates Motel version of dining, SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR MONEY!

Beautiful place, really quiet and peaceful ambiance out on the patio for being right next to a busy street! Went for Ladies Night in the evening and had just amazing service! Our waitress was really knowledgeable of the menu and was able to recommend excellent drinks and meals. I had a salad and it was perfect spring medley, and shared a pizza. positively divine, I thought this was more of an expensive-date-night place, but really this was very reasonably priced and a great atmosphere. Parking was seemingly limited to street parking or a very small lot to the immediate left of the building, but wasn't too bad.

Good lunch buffet -- all you can eat pizza, pasta, salad for $10. The pizza is good, but nothing too special. I usually opt for the Sicilian style if I go for dinner -- thick crust, baked in a little olive oil. The patio is a great place for dinner outside. Good idea to make reservations ahead of time -- they get pretty crowded when there's a SLU basketball game or a show at the fox. They have a pretty good wine selection and 1/2 off bottles on Tuesdays.

We had another good experience at Vito's. There food is good and the service was nice. We were seated at one of the 2 person tables and it seemed a little cramped and the table next to us seemed really close. We were also not impressed with the dessert options.

We visited Vito's this past weekend, remembering a good meal we'd had there in the past. Sadly this visit was not what we remembered. My linguine tutti mare was tasteless as was my Caesar salad. My wife's eggplant was under cooked and her salad was also a disappointment. Service was spotty. I'm crossing Vito's off my list.

I recently moved to St. Louis a few months ago. I'm so happy that I finally found an amazing Italian Restaurant. The food is amazing. The service is just as good. I recommend ordering the Lasagna and the Seafood Ravioli. Both servings are outstanding. Hands-down the best Italian Restaurant in St. Louis ( including the Hill).

INCREDIBLE!!! My sister and I went this past weekend and everything was delectable. I wish I had discovered this place before I moved from St. Louis, but now I have a go-to place for incredible Italian food. The steak was melt in your mouth delicious and the risotto?!?!?! Amazing. Warning:: This is a pretty popular spot, so be sure to make a reservation. Otherwise, grap a plate and ENJOY!

I'll start this with a word of warning: DON'T EAT THE GELATO! You'll soon understand why. I've heard great things about Vito's, but on our visit at around 5:15 on a Friday evening, it was anything but. The bar area was packed with Cards fans watching the Wild Card game, and the dining room was full of groups of mostly ladies dressed in wacky t-shirts for the Price Is Right show happening that night at The Fox. While sans homemade t-shirts, our group was grabbing a bite to eat before the show as well. Our waitress, while nice, was not the most professional. We heard her tell the table next to us that she didn't want to rush them, but they would need to leave by 6:15 because their table was reserved at that time. :-/ Ugh. She dropped off a wine list, then later came back for our drink orders. My sister and my friend both stuck to waters, I ordered a glass of their cheapest ($6) Pinot Grigio, and my brother-in-law ordered the Schlafly seasonal (Oktoberfest). She informed him they were out of the Oktoberfest on draft, but they had it in bottles. He agreed to that and she left, taking the wine list with her. She came back after a few minutes and told me they were out of the wine I'd ordered, but had another Pinot Grigio that was just as good, though $2 more. I would've searched the menu for something else, but since she'd taken it away, I went with just a bud select instead. I wasn't looking to spend $8 on one glass of wine that night, so beer it was! After she dropped off our beers, my brother-in-law realized she'd given him a Schlafly Pale Ale. Not the seasonal. He drank it anyway - not a huge deal, but also not what the server had said. Later when he asked for another, he confirmed with her that they had NO seasonal left, bottles or otherwise. We ordered our food and all was well until my pregnant sister pulled a hair out of her alfredo. The server apologized very briefly and took her plate away. She returned relatively quickly with a new pasta. Oh well, things happen, right? We decided to try some gelato and went with our server up to the counter near the front door. After tasting a few options, we each got a cup and returned to our table. About halfway through dessert my sister said "What's that?" She dug into her cup a bit and then dropped it. Frozen inside was a GIANT DEAD MOTH. Now I'm not talking one of those tiny things that I sometimes find dead on a windowsill inside my house. No! This was a FULL SIZE MOTH of the fuzzy variety, dead right smack in the middle of her gelato. Not lying on top, like it had just tumbled in, but frozen in the middle! I took the cup from her (she's my little sister, even if she is almost 30, after all) and stopped another server passing by to ask for a manager. Our server walked by and I asked her for a manager too and showed her the cup. "Ew! I'm sorry, that's gross," she said, and took it away. Shortly after the manager came by and apologized - well, sort of. He'd heard about the moth, but I also alerted him to the hair in the pasta which we'd already dealt with. While I'm pretty sure he did utter an "I'm sorry," most of what he said was to the effect of "I run a clean house. I assure you this is not usual. You know, a moth can get in the gelato since it's right by the front door. I'll tell my kitchen staff about the hair. The health inspector was just here. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH." When you've found a hair and a dead bug in your food, the last thing you want to hear from the manager is excuses and explanations. JUST SAY YOU'RE REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY SORRY! Beg for forgiveness! Yes, we know this stuff can happen, but c'mon! He said he'd take care of it on the bill and left with the remaining 3 cups of gelato (none of us wanted to finish ours after my sister's experience). Our waitress brought our checks and true to his word, he'd removed the pasta, all of the gelatos, and one beer from our check. I guess the beer was a bonus, but after that I'd honestly expected a little more from him. Just to top the night off, as we were leaving I noticed something about the gelato - it was all still there! No one had checked with my sister to find out which flavor(s) she'd ordered, and no one was bothering to clean out the offending flavor(s). Which means that an uninvolved server could easily serve another unsuspecting customer later that night the same flavor with the added bonus of a few moth bits with their dessert. I couldn't help but tell two women waiting for a table near the gelato not to eat it, that we'd found a moth. I was mad. We will not be returning to Vitos, and I'm warning everyone I can to avoid it. The double-gross out, paired with their care-free attitude, and lack of concern means it is definitely not the place for us.

My husband and I had dinner at the bar on a Friday night. I ordered the pollo piccata (lemon, capers, mushrooms, chicken) and my husband ordered the salmon. Less than 6 minutes later our food arrived. Weird? Yes. My husband's salmon was cooked perfectly. The veggies were cold and mushy and the risotto was bland and cold. The pollo piccata was horrible - the chicken was cooked so long it was almost rubber and the veggies were mush. We asked the bartender how our food came out so quick and why are the veggies mush. She advised that the "chefs" make the veggies early in the evening and keep them in a pan in the oven. I reminded the bartender that it was only 5:30 in the evening... Oh, my favorite comment...the "chefs" precook the chicken. WTH? Seriously? Cook to order! I know Vito's used to have amazing food. When we lived in the CWE we frequented Vito's at least once a week. Very disappointed.

Sunday night my boyfriend and I just saw a show at Fox Theater. We were wondering around after to find a place to socialize and grab a drink. We were welcomed into Vito's even though it was past their normal closing time. They stayed open to accommodate all of the concert crowd. This is a great group of people and the restaurant was really charming. I love this place!

Good stuff, the regular 'za is tasty, I look forward to trying some thick style! Best pizza in Stl that I've come across so far.

Chewy hand tossed crust, a tangy sauce, and the right amount of quality cheese makes a damn good pizza. Vito's pizza really is one of the best in town. I happened to stop in last night (Monday) on the way downtown to a Cards game. It's right off 40 so it wasn't out of the way at all. I really didn't go for pizza, however, they have a special on Monday's for a $5 10 inch pie plus another $1.25 per topping. I couldn't refuse. I ordered sausage and asiago cheese. My girlfriend ordered pepperoni. The sausage wasn't as spicy as I hoped and I really didn't taste asiago on my pizza. But it was damn good. The pepperoni pizza offered a little more zest. A couple of negatives. 1) They were out of diet coke. 2) They didn't have any hot sauce... the only offering to kick up the heat is the red pepper flakes. Service was great. And we left with plenty of leftovers. Our bill was only $15 and I would have gladly paid much more for pizza this good.

Food was good - ravioli, pizza and calamari. Service was suspect and beer was even more suspect. Where is the Stella on draught?

Well... I've lived downtown for fifteen years and have been eating Vitos Pizza since, well it seems like day one... What can I say, except that " I Love It ". Sometimes I forget about It, then after I've had It, I think to myself, how do I not always think about this place??? Easily the best pizza in downtown Saint Louis... As unique as any pizza in town. The sauce is incredible and the little sausages are amazing!! Keep it up for another fifteen years, Vitos!!

My fiancé and I came here earlier this year before The Book of Mormon because Triumph grill wouldn't take us without a reservation. The place was packed and we were lucky to nab two seats at the bar. The food was good so we vowed to come back at another time. Cut to 10 months later... We didn't make a reservation cause we figured they couldn't be very busy. It was a Thursday night and there were no shows at the Fox, BIG mistake. We got in around 6:15 and waited until 6:50 without so much as another glance from the host (who I'm fairly certain was the owner cause everyone kept calling him Vito). Somewhere between 20-25 people walked in and were seated immediately, which was infuriating. I understand if they have reservations but do they seriously reserve out every table in the restaurant? If they do, that is just plain stupid! If you give away every table to reservations you should post somewhere that reservations are required! We ended up just walking out and going to Sauce on the Side and we won't be coming back anytime soon! Oh and the only reason why I gave them 2 stars is cause the food we had earlier in the year was pretty good but we would have loved to have an actual meal here.

Chose Vito's on the recommendation of a friend because we needed a quick family dinner before a show at the Fox. Had reservations and when we arrived our table was ready for us, which was great because it was pretty busy. The bread they brought to the table was SO GOOD! (I loves me some bread!) They pour the olive oil & balsamic for dipping and you can add some parm if you like- YUM! The toasted ravs were good, other than we had one dud (no filling). Beef tortellini, pizza & calzone were all amazing. My husband didn't love the beef spedini *but* he didn't know what it was and ordered based off the description, not based off knowing what spedini was. He did like it, it just wasn't quite what he was expecting. Service was good, food was perfect, and I think I found my new favorite Italian place!

Need a cure for a hangover? According to the bartender at Vito's try the meat lover's pizza. Apparently it cures what ails ya. Me, I tried the sausage and pepperoni pizza and felt just fine. Vito's is a great little pizzeria in the heart of Midtown near SLU. I happened upon the place because of a networking event then stayed way past my bedtime enjoying $3 draft Peroni, pizza and the Gelato bar with $3 generous scoop of yummy goodness. Vito's also has a pretty sizable outdoor patio. Feel free to watch the traffic on Olive go by. Or pedistrians. Or bikers. Whatever. It's all good. Great location and even better food with OK service. Nothing to shout about but they do get you your order in a timely fashion. Vito's is definitely on my radar for my next pizza binge.

Just like Vito's back in Iowa City, the St. Louis version gets it done in a not-overly-impressive fashion. I went here with a few co-workers for their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. The buffet features your basics: pizza, salad, breadsticks, and soup. It's pretty popular with the SLU crowd, so it gets fairly crowded. Luckily, folks shuffle in and out at a pretty regular pace. If you're looking for a buffet around Grand Center that won't impress but won't disappoint (and won't kill your wallet either), head to Vito's.

I was lucky enough to live next to Vito's for four years while I attended St. Louis University. I spent many days eating the lunch buffet. The lunch buffet has so many options for a great price. I believe it is $8.50 for several kinds of pizza, pasta, full salad bar, soup and bread. Their pizza is what they are known for and I can understand why- it's the best pizza I have tried in St. Louis. You can also order off of the menu for lunch if you want a panini or other options. The dinner at Vito's is awesome as well. They have some entrees that are awesome that aren't offered at lunch. I have never experienced a dish I did not like at Vito's. Not only is the food out of this world but the atmosphere and people are great as well! I still go back and recognize the family that owns Vito's. They are all very friendly and involved. You can tell they have so many regulars and walk around knowing many people by names. Vito's is such a great family owned joint and I can't say enough great things about this place!

The buffet was a lot better than I expected. The salads and soups were good but the pizza was amazing! I tried every kind of pizza they served except the veggie one, and I can easily say its the best pizza I have had in St. Louis so far. The only knock on this place was that the service was slow. The family atmosphere, relatively low pricing, and the great food makes Vito's a great place to eat at.

My husband and I tried Vito's for the first time and will definitely be back. I had the house salad and my husband had the antipasto salad. Both were delicious. The greens were fresh and crisp. The dressing was good. We ordered a deep dish pizza and it was the best I ever had.

This place was great. Our first time in and both the service and the food were fantastic. Great salad, delicious seafood Risotto, and pizza as good as it gets. I'm going to be a regular

A classic casual Italian joint, Vito's was always a favorite for "serious" dinners while at SLU. Returned recently, vibe was just as satisfying as I recalled & the Beef Tortellini still rocked. Just a solid option for a late or spur of the moment dinner out.

I am a frequent patron of this restaurant and normally I am pretty satisfied with my experience. Lately, the service has gone downhill and I have had a few encounters with some rude servers. The food is always good but it is upsetting that I no longer want to come back because of the service.

This was one of THE most horrible experiences ever. I would have taken the time to complain but I didn't HAVE the time. Our server almost completely avoided us the whole time and only spent seconds at our table and any given time. She lied to the table next to us. She threw some forks at the little girls and told them they would have to use forks that they were out of spoons. Yet when we got our gelato they had spoons again but were out of lids. I didn't not plan to eat this til I got home! Sure she was out of lids like she was out of spoons. Or she was just too dang lazy to take her butt back and get them. I usually will complain but we made it clear to her we only had two hours per our chosen parking location. I ordered all of our kids gelato to go.. she took it apon herself to put two of the kids in one container. When she ask if it was ok I said not really but she ignored me really, but she did that the whole 2 hours we were there. Food wasn't all that great. I completely agree with the other poster. They wouldn't last in any other location. And how low class to argue with an unhappy customer in public. Truly unprofessional. Their staff is untrained and RUDE. Also, I understand busy. I am fine with waiting. But do NOT tell me I will be waiting 20 min and then make me wait nearly and hour! Funny thing is, most of what I am writing has been written over and over and over again. I spent almost $100 here and I would have been SOOO much happier with McDonalds. I wish I could remember all the things that had happened on our visit but these were the biggies that really stick out. What a horrible horrible experience. Oh and I know blah blah blah from the owner if he decides to respond. I heard his responses to the other people. They are all the same. Save it. It doesn't change anything. And it seems nothing changes no matter how many of your customers get treated like crap. The same things keep happening over and over. That's what proves it is your location that keeps you open.

This place was ok..... Dress Code: -look nice, most people were dressed up -we wore street clothes here and felt a little out of place Service: -The greeter at the door was really nice, but the service was meh Food: -I got my favorite pizza in the the world...pizza margarita and well it did not deliver. What I'm use to is fresh mozzarella, basil, and fresh tomato. Well what I got was a greasy pizza with little basil and the mozzarella was overly greasy...fail. The crust was burnt too. The group I was with like their meals, but everyone that got pizza wasn't in love with it. Gelato: -The gelato was yummy. $3 a scoop. I got mint chocolate, but my favorite was tiramisu. Yummy =)

This is my favorite place to have lunch when I work in the area. The lunch buffet is fantastic and of course the pizza is the best part. They have a small but very fresh salad bar and at least one soup on the buffet. Oh, I can't forget the mostaccioli. A bit saucy today but usually great. But hey... I come for the pizza! Fantastico!

Terrible service. I first came here when I was a freshman at SLU just to try the place since it's pretty much across the street from the engineering building and what's not to love about convenience? I can usually smell the pizzas cooking on my way to class and it always makes my mouth water. The food, I had recalled, was always pretty much "okay" but nothing stellar. The service was always pretty sluggish but today it was REALLY terrible. I placed a take-out order around 4:55pm and I asked for a house salad with RANCH dressing and an order of the seafood ravioli. The guy on the phone said it would take about 20 minutes. So I headed over around 5:16 assuming it would take me more or less 4 minutes to walk there give or take. I got there at approx 5:18 or so. No biggie. I walked inside with my friend and noticed the host(ess) stand where you get your pick-up order was vacant. No one was there. I had to wait at least 5 minutes ish before anyone noticed me standing there. I saw about 3 people tops working at that time....two women and one man. It wasn't super crowded but there were a few people in there getting an early dinner. There was still someone's receipt just laying on the table in front of me, signed, and I could tell it was a take-out slip, probably due to lack of tip. So a guy finally saw me and asked what I needed and I said take out order. He didn't ask for my name so I assumed that I was the only recent take out order and he disappeared in the back, I figured, to get my food for me. Nope. I waited a good 15 minutes there, maybe more. During that time, I had all of the other staff ask if I had been helped and I said yeah the guy went to get my food, but then I saw him (or maybe it was a different guy?) walking around back and forth. FINALLY, I got fed up and asked the guy how much longer it would be and he was like "I'm going to check on it now" which made it sound like my food wasn't even ready yet. WTF. It was about 5:45 by now, and I was starved and pissed off. No, really. Ridiculous. It's take-out for a reason--so I don't have to wait around for my food! He came back out, without my food (grr) and asked me what my name was "again." He didn't even ask the first time for the name on the order. The part that really pissed me off was the fact that despite requesting ranch dressing, I ended up with their grody house dressing which tasted like pure vinegar, ick, and brown chuncks of lettuce. Ew. The bread was kinda stale, and my ravioli were COLD. Seriously, people, please to be getting your shit together. Maybe they were understaffed but it wasn't even that busy. I got an order of gelato to go too and the lady proclaimed "we have no lids!" and I was like "well do you guys ever sell soup to go? Maybe you have some soup containers you could put it in?" And she finally obliged to go check. I think she must have been in training because she looked clueless as hell. Oh well. Not much to be done about that. I feel like I am a patient individual but damn, I was starved, and even my amiga thought that it was kinda ridic. She apparently orders take-out from Vito's quite often as we all practially live in the Space Lab at Parks, lol, and she's never had to wait that long....and it wasn't even for her food! She was just along for the walk. My friend told me I should have gone back to get them to give me the right salad dressing and food that's actually hot. But I was too starved to give a damn...more importantly, I didn't want to risk having to wait another 20something minutes of standing around for food, or longer. tl;dr: Will get delivery from JJ's or TGP next time. = / Sorry Vito's.

Nice atmosphere. Went there for a date night and it was good. I had the Caesar salad and the toasted rav. Both were good. The lettuce for the salad was not the freshest since some of the outside edges were starting to brown but it wasn't bad. The rav's were great. My husband had the calamari and the lobster risotto. He must have loved both because they were consumed very quickly. I also ordered a candy apply martini which was not served in a martini glass and the heavy pour made it almost undrinkable but for $8 a glass you bet your a$$ I will drink it. The beer was cheap which was a good thing. When we first sat down we where poured water and given the bread but I was confused on why there was no ice in the water? The table clothes also had a brown paper like you would use for an art project or wrapping a package over the linen table clothe so I was confused by that one as well but it was good. Would return but I don't think I will order another mixed drink there again. Some people like a heavy pour but I like to actually taste the drink. The service was great! The salad, the iceless water, and the heavy alcohol pour where really the only reasons I did not give 4 stars.

Went in the other day to check out this place with friends. We were greeting right away and shown to our table. The atmosphere is very nice and not too fancy, casual but Italian. We ordered the Arancini - one of the house specialties and were glad we did. They are stuffed risotto balls with marinara sauce, sun dried tomatoes, seasoned beef, peas, and fresh mozzarella. For the pizza we decided on the Vito's veggie pizza. This is a hand tossed pizza (see photo) sliced tomato, mushroom, broccoli, green red peppers $15 It was very, very good...easily one of my favorite veggie pizzas in the city. All of the staff (including Vito himself) were very helpful and friendly. We'll definitely be returning with an appetite!

I've been to Vito's twice and don't really have a desire to go back. The food and service are both decent. I just don't want to pay them as much as I have to for something that's not as amazing as I want it to be.

I wouldn't bother: I ate here on Saturday, sat out on the patio. The food was meh. The Baby Arancini were cheesy, but not my favorite; the seafood ravioli packed flavor and was my favorite item of the night; the margarita pizza wasn't traditional, did not use fresh mozz for the cheese and the tomatoes were scarce. The crust was nice, and when you got the rare bite of all the ingredients together, it tasted good. The service was questionable. I got one glass of water at the beginning of the meal and it was not refilled once. The waitress wasn't up-to-snuff on the red wine list. I tried three wines that night and ALL of them were lacking body; pretty disappointing when you're looking for an inky, full flavored Italian red. The free bread at the beginning of the meal was pretty solid if you salt the oo and balsamic.

We swung by Vito's for dinner last night, and it's still one of my favorite Italian places close to downtown - or period! Awesome #1 We liked our previous dinners so much that we bought two Hot Sauce certificates when they were offered at the beginning of the year. Some places are weird about letting you use Hot Sauce and Groupon around Valentine's Day, but Vito's isn't - they said it was no problem since it wasn't actually V-Day. (We were going because we were hungry, not because it was close to Name-Your-Own-Expensive-Holiday-Gift Day. Awesome #2 Vito's is experimenting more with social media and geo-location services. When Josh and I checked in on Foursquare, we saw that Vito's was offering a check-in special of $5 pizzas. We got the scoop from our waitress - any pizza in the make-your-own section was $5 as just mozzarella cheese, and the topics you could add were discounted too! She said that the restaurant just launched its Foursquare special last week, and I'm excited that yet another restaurant is testing the waters. I made sure to tell them on Facebook how much we appreciated it! Awesome #3 Our food was delicious, and we really shouldn't be surprised anymore. We started off sharing a large salad with greens, artichoke hearts, onion, cheese, italian dressing and green olives (which we picked out). I love that dressing so much - I can't help but sop it off the plate with the bread that's provided! And because the prices were so good, we each ordered our own pizzas. Josh got his with chicken, mushrooms and garlic, while I ordered portabella, onions and feta. The pizzas were quite generous, and I now have enough leftover for three days of lunches. I don't know how he did it, but Josh managed to polish ALL of his slices off (Man, that sounds dirty.), along with a glass of wine. I really, REALLY wish we had had room for dessert; the gelato case was looking particularly fetching last night. Awesome #4 Our meal was billed at about $30, but our certificate took it down to about $18. We felt like we were getting a humongazoid deal (Hot Sauce PLUS Foursquare? Yowzers!), so we left our server a pretty sizeable tip. (She was awesome about filling our glasses frequently, plus, you know, it was almost Valentine's Day - share the love.) We do have one more Hot Sauce certificate for Vito's, but we'll definitely keep coming back even without such discounts. Vito's absolutely is a gem of an Italian place in Midtown.

I am a picky Sicilian and rarely will go out to an Italian restaurant. That said, we were going to the Fox for a show and decided on this place, I was intrigued. Drinks were good, Appetizer of Mussels was OK, nothing special. Our entrees, seafood ravioli for my GF, she loved it. I got the Pasta ala Norma which is a traditional Sicilian pasta dish with roasted eggplant. it was surprisingly very good! The service was sub par and the waitress acted like she knew what she was talking about but was really just blowing smoke. LOL I had to stop her from embarrassing herself, like "don't bullshit a bullshitter". The last straw was when she tried to sell us dessert and said they had cassata cake, I perked up!! She then proceeded to say it was a Sicilian white cake with....... I said WHAT??? lol its not "cake" its ricotta cheese and candied fruit and almond paste! Call me snob but It really bugs me when "Italian" restaurants try to snowball non-Italians into eating their crap and saying its something its not. Our waitress disappeared after we got our entrees and had to be searched for if we needed anything. This place is a cash cow for servers, busy from the theater and $$$$ checks for big tips for little or no work.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
